How to Handle Persistent Foam in Shrimp Ponds?
Causes of Persistent Foam in Shrimp Ponds
There are many reasons for the appearance of persistent foam in shrimp ponds, but there are two main causes that require special attention:
Toxic Gases: This is the most common and impactful cause affecting the quality of shrimp in the pond. According to experts, when toxic gases such as H2S, methane, CO2, etc., accumulate in the pond, they lead to the formation of persistent foam. These gases reduce the dissolved oxygen in the water, which directly harms the shrimp. More seriously, if H2S levels accumulate excessively, reaching concentrations between 0.01 - 0.02 ppm, it can lead to mass shrimp mortality, directly affecting the quality and profitability of the shrimp.
Dead Algae: Persistent foam can also appear if there is a significant amount of dead algae in the pond. While it may not be as severe as toxic gas, a large amount of dead algae can degrade water quality, reducing the shrimp's resistance if not promptly addressed.

How to Improve the Situation of Persistent Foam in Shrimp Ponds
When detecting persistent foam in shrimp ponds, shrimp farmers should take the following immediate actions:
Immediately check the levels of toxic gases like H2S and NH3 in the pond. If the levels exceed the permissible limits, you can use specific products that absorb toxic gases to improve water quality and rescue the shrimp, reducing the occurrence of shrimp surfacing.
If dead algae are found in the pond, especially around the aerator, promptly remove the algae and use microorganisms to treat the pond bottom, helping to decompose the algae and clean the pond water.
Besides these measures, shrimp farmers should regularly mix vitamins, digestive enzymes, and minerals into the shrimp's diet. This not only enhances the shrimp’s immunity but also increases their endurance during adverse conditions like persistent foam.
