Global shrimp prices – Week 12: Ecuador shrimp prices recover, while India and Indonesia remain stable
The farmed shrimp market in Asia is showing signs of recovery in several countries, driven by the trading momentum from the North American Seafood Expo, while shrimp prices in China and Vietnam continue to face a downward trend.
After the Lunar New Year, weak consumption demand has caused shrimp prices in China to decline for three consecutive weeks, wiping out earlier gains from the beginning of the year and approaching breakeven levels, pushing farmers toward the risk of losses. The pressure has intensified as Peruvian fishmeal prices have surged by an additional 4,000–5,000 CNY/ton, driving trading prices at Huangpu Port (Guangzhou) above 18,000 CNY/ton. Feed prices have also been adjusted upward accordingly, increasing shrimp farming costs.
In contrast, Ecuador has recorded signs of price recovery. Shrimp sizes 30/40 increased by 2.8%, 40/50 by 1.6%, and 60/70 by 1.8%, while larger sizes 20/30 remained stable. Exporters in the country continue to focus on the U.S. market, which is considered more stable and offers higher profit margins compared to China and Europe. Amid rising competition, Ecuadorian exporters are accelerating product innovation, processing technology, and service improvements to gain an advantage.

In India, shrimp prices have stabilized after a period of decline, although they remain about 8% lower than the same period last year. Indonesia maintains stable price levels, 3–8% higher than in 2025. Meanwhile, Vietnam continues its downward trend due to increased supply and early harvesting sentiment to avoid the risk of further price drops.
