Prices of small-sized raw shrimp decline

The raw shrimp market in the Mekong Delta last week showed a clear divergence by size. In particular, small-sized shrimp continued to face downward price pressure amid increasing supply, while demand has not recovered proportionately.

Small-sized shrimp prices are declining

According to reports from processing plants and procurement systems, large-sized whiteleg shrimp (20–30 pcs/kg) are currently maintaining prices at around VND 180,000 – 190,000/kg, relatively stable thanks to demand from export orders. Medium-sized shrimp (40–60 pcs/kg) are commonly traded within the range of VND 100,000 – 115,000/kg.

In contrast, small-sized shrimp (80–100 pcs/kg) continued to see slight price adjustments downward during the week, decreasing by VND 1,000 – 4,000/kg depending on the area. In key regions such as Sóc Trăng and Bạc Liêu, some processing plants have temporarily maintained purchase prices for the 80 pcs/kg size, but overall price levels remain lower than in the previous period.

  

 

According to market sources, the downward pressure is mainly driven by increased supply as the harvest season peaks, while export demand has yet to show clear signs of recovery. At the same time, the continued preference for purchasing larger shrimp sizes to fulfill export orders has slowed the consumption of smaller sizes, further increasing price pressure.

In the short term, raw shrimp prices are expected to continue fluctuating based on supply-demand dynamics and order structures. Large-sized shrimp are likely to remain stable, while small-sized shrimp still face the risk of further price declines if supply continues to rise.
