Aquaculture engineering company, Landing Aquaculture BV, and AGTira have joined forces to revolutionize the landscape of local seafood production. Landing Aquaculture BV has successfully completed the design of a compact RecirculatingAquaculture System (RAS) for AGTira's pioneering CityFarm project in Ostersund, Sweden.
This innovative system is set to yield up to 8 tons of premium fillets, while its processed effluents will support a greenhouse capable of producing 100 tons of vegetables. Situated in close proximity to the local ICA Maxi Supermarket, this will be their first demonstrator on how to do local food in the country.
The design challenges encountered throughout this project have led to collaborative innovations between Landing and Alde Akva, who also provided consultation for the project. Notable innovations include using the Advanced OxidationProcess (AOP) instead of ozone, sidewall drains with dewatering to expedite fish transport from the fish tanks, and bioreactors that regulate the number of dissolved nutrients reaching the adjacent greenhouse.

For Landing Aquaculture, this project represents an opportunity to elevate their established RAS design and manufacturing process to new heights in terms of scale and complexity. After numerous successful deliveries of their in-house RAS systems, such as the Landing Proof of Concept and the Landing MicroRAS, the CityFarm project has allowed Landing to produce their most compact RAS system to date.
AGTira selected Landing Aquaculture as they have a track record of building well-thought-out, robust systems and working closely with clients to make projects succeed. Their turn-key solutions require minimal subcontractor involvement and provide effective real-world cost control, while their in-house manufacturing provides extra value to the project.
The installation of the system will take place during the first half of 2024, with the first stocking expected by the summer.
