New Opportunities with the Domesticated Black Tiger Shrimp Farming Model
According to Mr. Phong, successful shrimp farming requires very careful pond preparation, which plays a crucial role in the production process. Before each farming cycle, he spends considerable time renovating the shrimp ponds, treating the water environment, and monitoring technical factors to create favorable conditions for shrimp growth. In particular, all shrimp seeds are acclimatized and nursed in nursery cages for 15–20 days before being transferred to grow-out ponds for commercial production.
Thanks to the proper implementation of technical procedures, the farmed shrimp develop quite uniformly. In the recent farming cycle, Mr. Phong stocked around 20,000 domesticated black tiger shrimp. After more than two months of culture, the shrimp reached a size of approximately 35 shrimp/kg, with a survival rate of about 85%, equivalent to more than 17,000 shrimp. The total harvested production reached over 400 kg of commercial shrimp.
Domesticated black tiger shrimp are carefully nursed and developed with strong health, good adaptability, and fast growth, helping shorten the farming period.

By effectively utilizing land area and environmental conditions, the model not only helps reduce production costs but also provides a stable source of income. On average, each year his family earns around 200 million VND from rice farming and various aquatic products, improving living standards and promoting sustainable economic development.
The willingness to innovate production methods, apply scientific and technical advances, and strengthen cooperation in aquaculture is opening up many opportunities for shrimp farming communities in Ca Mau. The two-stage domesticated black tiger shrimp farming model is expected to continue proving its effectiveness, improving local livelihoods, and contributing to rural economic development.
