Why Are People Competing to Build Small Shrimp and Fish Ponds?
Through this article, Aqua Mina Company would like to share some reasons to help people understand why there is a trend towards building small shrimp and fish ponds, which differ significantly from the old systems of shrimp and fish farming.

Reasons for Using Small Shrimp and Fish Ponds
Minimized Risk: Small ponds reduce the maximum risk. In large ponds, if a disease spreads, it can infect the entire pond, resulting in 100% loss. This is a major reason why people prefer small ponds and multiple ponds. If a disease occurs, they might lose 1-2 ponds but still have many others remaining.
Controlled Environment: Small pond designs often include coverings, making it easier to manage water quality and monitor shrimp development closely.
Construction and Setup: Small ponds are often made from modular concrete, composite materials, or particularly from steel frames with liners. They are quick to assemble, can be set up in high areas to avoid flooding, and are easily adapted.

HDPE Liner Ponds: Using HDPE-lined small ponds keeps them completely separated from the ground. This makes it easy to renovate, clean, and disinfect the pond in case of disease outbreaks.
Convenient Setup and Security: Setting up small ponds near a main house for easy access and maintenance helps protect against theft and malicious actions, such as people poisoning the ponds. There have been cases where jealousy led to poisoning, resulting in the loss of entire ponds of shrimp overnight.
Mobility: Individuals and businesses leasing land for aquaculture often choose mobile, modular pond setups. These can be disassembled and moved when relocating, unlike fixed models.

Tips for Building Modular Aquaculture Ponds
Typically, small ponds for shrimp, fish, eels, snails, frogs, and crabs have a diameter of about 4 to 5 meters. Rectangular, square, elliptical, or circular shapes are all effective.
For ponds with a diameter greater than 5 meters, a circular shape is recommended. Larger ponds with more water experience greater internal pressure, and a circular pond evenly distributes this pressure, reducing the risk of rupture.

When designing a shrimp and fish pond system, it is best to seek advice before starting. Consider hiring professional services for construction to ensure warranty and repair services if issues rise.
