Sustainable Fisheries Partnership announces new strategy to expand its impact
Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP), headquartered in Honolulu, has recently announced a new strategy titled “All Hands on Deck” aimed at strengthening its impact over the next 20 years. This initiative calls for the participation of businesses, non-governmental organizations, governments, donors, and other stakeholders to jointly promote sustainable fisheries management.

According to the organization, the 2025 assessment shows that many fish stocks remain at low levels or continue to decline, protected species are still being caught unintentionally, and social issues remain widespread. Therefore, the new strategy focuses on three main directions: strengthening the leadership role of businesses, institutionalizing collaborative fisheries management, and promoting solutions that deliver tangible impact to restore fish stocks.
The organization emphasizes that while governments play a key role in issuing and enforcing regulations, many countries still lack the resources to manage fisheries effectively. As a result, a collaborative management model can leverage the strengths of all stakeholders.
In addition, the organization notes that reliance on certifications alone is not sufficient; long-term efforts must be maintained after certification is achieved to ensure true sustainability.
