Vietnam Produces Over 335 Million Aquatic Seeds in Q1 2025
Since late February, hatcheries have initiated breeding for several species such as carp, koi, crab, black tiger shrimp, Thai frogs, babylon snails, loaches, and more. Some brackish and saltwater hatcheries have also imported and nursed post-larvae of black tiger shrimp, white-leg shrimp, grouper, and mullet to serve the upcoming season. Hatcheries specializing in mollusks have completed pond and tank preparation for the production of oysters and clams.

As of early April 2025, the estimated seed output has surpassed 335 million units, which is four times higher than the same period in 2024. This includes approximately:
320 million oyster seeds
6 million wedge clam seeds
9 million freshwater fish seeds
10.5 million white-leg shrimp post-larvae
35 million black tiger shrimp post-larvae
Based on the seasonal calendar guidelines, hatcheries and farmers throughout the province have been actively repairing and improving ponds and initiating stocking, ensuring both farming area and aquaculture output align with the annual plan.
Looking ahead, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue working with local authorities to:
Direct and guide hatcheries in adjusting production based on real market demand
Ensure timely and quality supply of aquaculture seeds
Intensify communication and legal training for hatcheries—especially for white-leg shrimp, black tiger shrimp, clams, oysters, crabs, and marine fish
Implement inspections and ensure compliance with regulations for hatchery operations
Assist in administrative procedures related to aquaculture seed management
These efforts aim to contribute to the safe, sustainable, and efficient development of the aquaculture industry.
