Đồng Tháp: Canal bank erosion causes over 5 billion VND in property damage to residents
A canal bank collapse in Đồng Tháp Province did not cause any loss of life but resulted in significant property damage for local residents.
At 5:30 a.m. on April 4, in Hamlet 3, Tân Hộ Cơ Commune, Đồng Tháp Province, a section of the northern embankment road along Tân Thành Canal collapsed, stretching approximately 50 meters. The incident caused flooding, severely damaging the fish ponds of Mr. Nguyễn Văn Bầy (born in 1965, residing in Thi Sơn Hamlet, Tân Thành Commune, Đồng Tháp Province), with a total affected aquaculture area of about 3 hectares.
Total property damage is estimated at over 5.2 billion VND, including: about 100 tons of pangasius fish valued at approximately 4 billion VND; 120 goats, 2 motorbikes, and household assets worth around 250 million VND; and one feed storage warehouse along with a conveyor system valued at about 1 billion VND.

The cause of the collapse was identified as the water level in the fish ponds being about 4 meters higher than the canal water level, leading to water seepage into the embankment and eventual failure.
After receiving the report, local authorities of Tân Hộ Cơ Commune quickly arrived at the scene to collect information, secure the area, and assess the situation. They also coordinated with Đồng Tháp provincial authorities to assist the affected household in urgently repairing the collapsed section of the road.
