Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the UK: Growth potential in a highly competitive market

Amid global seafood trade fluctuations driven by geopolitical conflicts and the rising trend of protectionism in major markets, the United Kingdom is considered a stable destination for Vietnamese shrimp. After Brexit, the country has not only maintained strong import demand but has also gradually reshaped its supply chain toward diversifying sources of supply.
The UK is a country with high seafood consumption but is heavily dependent on imports. In 2025, approximately 58% of its seafood supply came from external sources, while for shrimp alone, this figure reached as high as 99%. This highlights the crucial role of exporting countries, including Vietnam, in ensuring supply for this market.

Shrimp is one of the most commonly consumed seafood products in the UK, widely available across both retail and foodservice channels. Popular products on the market include frozen peeled shrimp, cooked shrimp, breaded or fried shrimp, as well as convenient options used in salads, sandwiches, and ready-to-eat meals. This consumption trend clearly reflects a strong preference for convenience products, aligning with the fast-paced lifestyle and modern retail system in the UK.
