Whiteleg shrimp prices surge ahead of the 2026 Bính Ngọ Lunar New Year, reaching up to VND 250,000 per kg in many areas
The whiteleg shrimp market in Cà Mau is showing positive signs as farm-gate prices have risen sharply compared to the same period last year. Currently, whiteleg shrimp sized 25–100 pieces per kilogram are priced between VND 100,000 and VND 250,000 per kg, an increase of approximately 30–50% compared to the same period in 2025. At this price level, farmers can achieve profits of around VND 100,000 per kg of shrimp, delivering high economic efficiency.According to forecasts by relevant authorities, from now until the 2026 Bính Ngọ Lunar New Year, raw shrimp prices are likely to continue their upward trend due to increasing demand for the Tet market, while supply is not expected to fluctuate significantly.

In Cà Mau – the country’s key shrimp-farming hub – following administrative consolidation, the province currently has more than 430,000 hectares of shrimp farming under various production models such as intensive, super-intensive, improved extensive farming, shrimp–rice, and shrimp–mangrove systems. Annual shrimp output exceeds 565,000 tons, playing an important role in supplying raw materials for processing and export.
Notably, the area devoted to intensive and super-intensive shrimp farming in 2025 reached approximately 40,000 hectares, equivalent to 100.9% of the annual plan. This result indicates that industrial shrimp farming models in the province are gradually stabilizing and recovering positively after a challenging period.
Alongside expanding farming areas and increasing output, many farmers in Cà Mau are shifting toward circular industrial shrimp farming models that apply closed-loop water treatment technologies with little or no discharge into the environment. This model helps control diseases, reduce environmental treatment costs, and meet increasingly stringent export market requirements for green and sustainable production.
In the context of shrimp prices remaining at high levels, circular shrimp farming is considered an effective approach that enables farmers to increase profits while protecting the ecological environment, thereby laying a foundation for the sustainable development of the shrimp industry in the coming period.
