Dong Thap Promotes Export of Competitive Agricultural and Aquatic Products
According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Linh, Deputy Director of Dong Thap Province’s Department of Industry and Trade, as of the end of July, the province recorded an export turnover of USD 5.23 billion, up 2.8% year-on-year, reaching 56.9% of the annual plan.
Notably, many agricultural and aquatic products continued their positive growth, helping to secure market outlets for key local produce, giving farmers confidence to invest in production, and contributing to social welfare across the province.
One of the most significant highlights was the sharp rise in rice exports. In the first seven months of 2025, rice export volume increased by over 81.6%, while export value rose by 47.7% compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven by stable demand and high export prices.
Similarly, processed aquatic products also grew 1.5% in export value year-on-year. The province’s export markets have become increasingly diversified and effective. In addition to China, Dong Thap’s rice, processed seafood, and fruits and vegetables were also exported to markets such as the United States, the EU, Japan, and South Korea.

The provincial Department of Industry and Trade shared that Dong Thap is actively seizing favorable opportunities and implementing rational governance solutions to ensure sustainable export growth and attract foreign currency for development investment.
The province encourages businesses to effectively leverage existing free trade agreements to promote exports while also focusing on administrative reform—including speeding up the issuance of Certificates of Origin (C/O)—to support exporters in a timely and efficient manner.
Additionally, Dong Thap is intensifying supply–demand connectivity and trade promotion, expanding markets through trade fairs, exhibitions, and promotional programs that introduce Vietnamese agricultural products to new partners and regions.
The province is pushing the export of key local products such as Ngu Hiep durian, Hoa Loc mango, Cho Gao dragon fruit, and Tuong green-skin mango.
Focus on Deep Processing and Value Addition
As part of its investment promotion strategy, Dong Thap is actively seeking investment projects focused on deep processing of agricultural products. This helps improve product quality, increase export value, and allows factories to secure stable supply sources that meet partner demands thanks to longer shelf life and better quality.
This approach aims to reduce dependency on one or two key export markets and helps farmers sell produce at fair prices during harvest seasons, avoiding the common problem of bumper harvests, falling prices .
Leveraging Natural Strengths and Expanding Production
Located in the Tien River region, Dong Thap has significant advantages for exporting competitive agricultural and aquatic products, including rice, specialty fruits, and processed seafood.
Dong Thap is currently among the top provinces in terms of raw rice production, fruit cultivation, and aquaculture farming areas in the region.
From early 2025 to date, the province has recorded:
Over 1.76 million tons of commercial rice
Over 1.34 million tons of various fruits
Over 453,000 tons of aquatic products
These are all high-value agricultural export commodities.
Tackling Barriers and Enhancing Market Access
According to Dong Thap’s Department of Industry and Trade, in 2025, local agricultural exports, especially fruit, face both opportunities and challenges—notably technical barriers from importing countries that must be overcome.
Thus, collaboration between the industry and trade sectors, agriculture departments, and other relevant agencies is crucial to remove obstacles—especially in building plantation codes, packing facility codes, and organizing safe, traceable production systems that add value to the export fruit chain.

Accelerating the issuance of plantation area codes provides a strong boost for competitive agricultural products to penetrate deeply into global markets, helping farmers prosper and revitalize rural agriculture.
Plantation Codes and Market Penetration
Currently, Dong Thap has nearly 218,000 hectares of high-value export fruit orchards, with 2,433 plantation area codes issued for official exports to China and other countries.
The province aims to have almost all specialty fruit areas coded for official export by the end of 2025.
Moving forward, the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Industry and Trade will work closely with functional agencies and localities to guide businesses and cooperatives in building raw material areas, submitting applications for packing and plantation codes, and exporting fresh fruit to China and other countries.
This effort will help stabilize export supply, increase foreign currency earnings, and improve farmers' incomes.
In addition, the province will strengthen monitoring and supervision of how plantation codes are managed and used, detect and handle violations in a timely manner, and assign dedicated staff to promote and guide the setup and management of coded plantation areas.
