Bac Giang, Vietnam: 150 Hectares of Aquaculture Integrated with Automation Technologies
Bac Giang province is taking bold steps toward smart and sustainable aquaculture. Currently, 150 hectares of aquaculture farming in the province are applying automation technologies, demonstrating the region’s commitment to innovation in the seafood sector.
83 Hectares Supported Under Provincial Automation Project. Of the total, nearly 83 hectares are part of a provincial initiative titled “Development of Automation in Intensive Aquaculture in Bac Giang Province, 2021–2030.” The program has involved 80 farming households across districts including Tan Yen, Hiep Hoa, Lang Giang, Luc Nam, Viet Yen Town, and Bac Giang City.
Participating households receive significant support:
- 50% subsidy on the cost of sensors, oxygen aerators, automatic fish feeders, and camera monitoring systems.
- 60% subsidy for purchasing fingerlings.
- 100% coverage for expenses related to veterinary drugs, chemicals, probiotics, water quality testing devices, VietGAP certification, training courses, and study tours.
70 Additional Hectares with Farmer-Led Innovation
Beyond the formal program, an additional 70 hectares have also adopted automation and biotechnology — led independently by proactive farmers. These households are integrating technology into water management, health monitoring, and feeding systems.

According to performance assessments, the application of automation and biotechnology has boosted average productivity to 14–15 tons per hectare, representing a 15–20% increase compared to traditional practices.
2025 Expansion Plans
In 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to support 15 additional households, covering 23.5 hectares under the automation project. Preparations are underway to deliver fingerlings and equipment by June 2025.
