Prospects - Challenges - Difficulties, and Successes of the Vietnamese shrimp farming industry

2023 is considered a challenging year for the agricultural industry in general and shrimp in particular, with both objective and subjective factors.

The shrimp industry has faced many difficulties, from unfavorable weather conditions, high input prices, disease outbreaks, while the selling price of commercial shrimp is not high, there are times of bottoming out, causing many farming areas to be suspended. Regarding exports, it has not been very promising, with most main markets experiencing a significant decline, reaching two-digit figures, making future forecasts shaky.

According to the Directorate of Fisheries (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), in 2023, the basic shrimp farming area did not increase compared to the previous year, estimated at about 737,000 hectares, with a production volume of 1.12 million tons; the total export turnover was about 3.45 billion USD, a decrease of 21% compared to the same period in 2022.

With understanding and empathy, VietShrimp 2024 with the theme In company shrimp farmers continues to be a large forum for managers, experts, businesses, and farmers to vsit down and find effective solutions for Vietnamese shrimp to overcome difficulties, regain growth momentum, and achieve new records.Vietnam is one of the leading countries in shrimp production and export worldwide. However, Vietnam's shrimp industry still faces many challenges such as climate change, environmental pollution, and diseases. Therefore, applying advanced technologies in shrimp farming is essential to improve quality and productivity.
