Tilapia prices in Brazil continued to decline in July due to weak demand
CEPEA reported that tilapia consumption usually slows down in winter, but this year the decline has been more severe due to high inventories, which have stalled business activities across the entire supply chain. Market sentiment has also been affected by concerns over possible tilapia imports from Vietnam, which could increase competitive pressure and impact domestic prices.
In July, tilapia prices in West Paraná dropped to 7.21 BRL/kg (about 1.30 USD), down 0.16 BRL from the previous month. In other regions, prices also showed a downward trend: 7.96 BRL/kg in Grandes Lagos, 8.54 BRL/kg in North Paraná, and 8.39 BRL/kg in Morada Nova de Minas.

Although the domestic market is facing difficulties, Brazil’s tilapia exports showed slight recovery in July after three consecutive months of decline. However, export volumes remain lower compared to the same period last year. CEPEA noted that this growth is a strategic effort to boost exports ahead of new tariffs expected from the United States – the main consuming market.
The organization concluded that with weak demand, high inventories, and looming trade risks, Brazil’s tilapia industry continues to face many challenges in the coming period.
