The higher the dissolved oxygen concentration, the higher the shrimp growth rate, allowing them to grow larger and develop better. It also increases survival rates because after molting, shrimp require more oxygen than usual. Therefore, if the dissolved oxygen concentration supplied is insufficient, the survival rate will decrease significantly.

The dissolved oxygen concentration is typically lower at night, so additional oxygen should be supplied to shrimp, especially around 2-3 AM.

Providing oxygen to bottom microorganisms helps them function optimally in an oxygen-rich environment, reducing waste and bottom sludge in the pond.

Oxygen is also involved in the nitrite and nitrate conversion processes, which only occur in oxygen-rich conditions, converting toxic NH3 and NO3 into less toxic compounds. In anaerobic conditions, these compounds can be reduced back to NH3 and NO2, which are harmful to shrimp.

Additionally, oxygen is necessary for the sulfate conversion process, turning H2S into non-toxic compounds. Conversely, in an anoxic environment, it will be reduced back to H2S by microorganisms, which is toxic to shrimp.
