News 2023: The Conference Focused on Establishing a Relationship Between HDBank and Shrimp Farmers in the Brackish Water of Soc Trang Province
According to Ms. Quach Thi Thanh Binh, shrimp farming in 2023 faces many difficulties related to the environment and weather conditions. Since the beginning of the year, low salinity levels have been delayed compared to the same period last year, ranging from 5-15‰, and the quality of the shrimp seed is poor. During the main cultivation period, farmers have to deal with heavy rainfall and the cost of input materials has increased significantly, while the price of raw shrimp materials has dropped significantly compared to the same period, ranging from 10,000 - 40,000 VND/kg of shrimp. This situation results in lower economic efficiency despite higher production output.

According to statistics from the Fisheries Sub-department, as of August 4, 2023, the province has stocked 39,338 hectares (29,310 hectares of whiteleg shrimp and 10,028 hectares of vannamei shrimp), reaching 77.1% of the plan.
Currently, most shrimp farming households lack capital for re-production or investment expansion. Specifically, many farmers face difficulty accessing capital due to previous debts, high interest rates for production investment, and insufficient loan limits that do not meet the needs of various production models, especially intensive, super-intensive, and technology-driven models.
This conference serves as a bridge for shrimp farmers to access credit capital from banks for re-production and purchasing input materials in cash to reduce production costs and overcome this challenging period.
Ms. Lam Thuy An, representative of HDBank, stated that the bank is ready to support farmers with credit loans, with a limit of approximately 350 million VND per hectare, offering various short-term and long-term loan options with preferential interest rates.

Many shrimp farming households expressed their desire to cooperate with the bank to help farmers access loan capital, while also urging relevant authorities to manage input material prices reasonably and find solutions to increase shrimp selling prices, thereby supporting more effective shrimp production.
In conclusion, Ms. Quach Thi Thanh Binh acknowledged the difficulties and proposals from shrimp farmers regarding stabilizing input material prices and output prices, arranging effective production, managing disease situations, and protecting the environment. Especially in the current context, the linkage between farmers, businesses, and relevant stakeholders in the supply chain is crucial and moves towards responsible and sustainable aquaculture development.
