Japan promotes seafood exports, especially scallops to Vietnam
On the afternoon of March 14, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) coordinated with the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) organizes a business connection event in the field of Japanese seafood, including scallops.
MAFF informs that in 2023, the total export value of Japanese agriculture, forestry, fishery and food will reach nearly 1,455 billion yen and is aiming for 2,000 billion yen in 2025 and reaching 5,000 billion yen in 2030.

Scallops, amberjack and red seabream are Japan's main export products.
Among seafood products, scallops, amberjack and red seabream are Japan's main export products. The Japanese government is implementing activities to promote the appeal of Japanese seafood at home and abroad and diversify export markets.

Talking to the press at the event, Mr. Toru Yoshimatsu - MAFF representative said that Vietnam has had many seafood processing factories, including scallops, so it has a lot of experience. Therefore, Japanese businesses choose Vietnam as a processing place, from there exporting to the US and ASEAN countries.

Vietnamese people love fresh Japanese seafood
Regarding scallops, the MAFF representative said that Japan has an advantage in raising this product, so it is proactive in sourcing goods, ensuring freshness to supply to markets. Japan has trade promotion organizations such as JETRO that can connect and support Vietnamese businesses wishing to import Japanese seafood to find sources of goods quickly.
