Sharing Tips for Efficient Eel Feeding
A. Types of Feed for Eels
Understanding what eels eat and which feed provides the best nutrients is a key concern for every farmer. Currently, there are three main types of eel feed available on the market:
1. Natural Feed for Eels
Natural feed is always a suitable and preferred choice for eels. This includes small trash fish, snails, mussels, and earthworms. However, these feeds must be fresh and not spoiled to prevent diseases in the eels.
2. Compound Feed for Eels
Before specialized industrial feeds for eels were available, many farmers combined natural feed with aquatic compound feed to support the eels’ growth effectively.
3. Industrial Feed for Eels
Industrial feed is typically pellet-based. When using this type of feed, farmers should purchase from large, reputable distributors. It’s crucial to avoid expired or moldy feed to ensure the health of the eels.
B. Tips for Efficient Eel Feeding
Eels are nocturnal, with around 80% of their feeding occurring at night. However, during farming, it is possible to gradually adjust their feeding schedule to make care more convenient.
Feed the eels 2-4 times per day, and monitor leftover feed regularly to adjust the quantity as needed. Typically, the feed amount should be 5-7% of the eel's body weight.
